In 1992, Campfire Tales was called Trail Scout Report. In this issue, photos were on the cover only. I included other photos for this on-line recovery to add color to it.

TURRET
“Where we going, Outlaw?” Blue Moon asked as he tossed his
tent into his Bronco.
“Turret,” I answered.
“It’s an old ghost town near Salida.”
“Count me in,” Shutterbug announced while trying to get his
dog into the Toyota.
“Me too.” Texin yelled from across the camping area.
The others, Caveman, Jetman, Rino, and Dirty Dan were still
tired from the fourteen hour day of 4Wheeling the day before. “We’re gonna go home.”
We pulled out of camp, at the crest of Medano Pass, on Sunday
morning and charged down the mountain toward Westcliffe. Our Saturday had been spent in the Sand Dunes
and in crawling up the rocky (VDL) trail to Blanca Peak. This day would be a day of rest. Easy trails, slow pace, great scenery, and
the remains of a ghost town called, Turret.
