ANOTHER OF THE MANY ADVENTURES OF PASS PATROL
LAMARTINE  -  Campfire Tales - February 1995

It was a cold, but sunny, Colorado day.  I had just finished making deliveries in Breckenridge and was headed back to Aurora when my Blazer’s Driver Control System suddenly took over and headed for Lamartine.  According to Chevy engineers I have the only Blazer Driver Control System that actually controls the driver.  They suggested I bring it in for testing but I wouldn’t want to do that.  They might fix it.

The first part of the road was easy stuff.  Icy and slick, but nothing to write home about.  I zipped on up to the Lamartine Tunnel and took a few pictures, then began the 4x4 road beyond.  It is amazing how much difference a few feet in elevation can make.  I was instantly in the white stuff up to my axles.

I paused for a few moments when my Driver Control System said, “Okay, Outlaw.  What are we waiting for now?” Did I mention that I also have the only Driver Control System that talks?  I call her Blaze.  She actually said that.  I heard it.  That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

“Maybe I don’t wanna do this snow.”

Lamartine
The mine shaft is a long way from the remains of the ghost town.  Miners had a long hike getting to work.
